Since joining Strata Homes in 2017, I have played a pivotal role in establishing and evolving the internal visualisation department, leading to advancements in design, marketing, and customer engagement for this regional residential housing developer. 
 

Initial Responsibilities: I began by developing Strata Homes' visual content capabilities, creating impactful visualisations that aided design and operational teams.

  • I Collaborated with the Head of Design and operational teams to develop product offerings.

  • Created conceptual and realistic visual content, including animations and VR explorations.

  • Enhanced the design process with tangible scales through advanced visualisation techniques such as Utilising HTC VIVE with Prospect software.
     

Evolution of Role: Over time, my role expanded to encompass marketing and operational efficiencies, significantly improving internal processes and customer experiences.

  • Introduced new processes and developed software in Unreal Engine with consultant partners.

  • Streamlined the production of multiple plot-specific CGI visuals to aid in marketing homes & developments off plan and much earlier than previously Strata were able to achieve.

  • Reduced outsourcing costs and enhanced customer experience.

  • Expanded the visualisation team to 4 members, serving marketing, land, and planning teams.
     

Key Projects and Achievements: I have led numerous successful projects, notably improving the efficiency and capabilities of the visualisation team and driving innovation through technology. Examples -
 

Configurator Project lead / Management:

  • I led the development of a real-time photorealistic configurator using Unreal Engine, utilising Lumen to create beautiful interactive interiors.

  • I was the main modeler that generated the 3d assets, as well as creating all the materials required to replicate real-life materials such as worktops, door and floor textures.

  • I also combined the unreal app with the assets, setting up the connection with blueprints to the meshes. Creating the dynamic lighting and making sure the application was effcient enough to run on low level pixel streamed servers.

  • Delivered a pixel-streamed, app-free experience allowing customers to configure homes with any internet capable device.

  • Coordinated with Unreal developers, UI/UX developers, data experts, and sales/marketing heads.

  • Generated additional sales leads and engagement through innovative visualisation tools.

  • Produced lots of supporting polished visual content for marketing on social media and Rightmove platforms. 
     

Development Support:

  • Assisted the products team in developing new house type range.

  • Collaborated with the brand team on new signage and wayfinding opportunities, visually able to place totem locations by placing in strategic locations based off of 3D landscapes, hoarding quantities, signage placements. 

  • Utilised drones for 3D scanning and asset capturing, converting materials into realistic marketing content and optimised 3D models.
     

Drone Team Initiative:

  • I formed a ‘Drone team’ comprising of a visualiser, engineer, and videographers.

  • Achieved cost savings by conducting in-house site surveys and capturing marketing content.

  • Generating 3d topography with textures that could be utilised within marketing content.

  • Ensured team members were certified to fly drones.

Latest Project:

  • Project lead / Design to develop an interactive aerial view of developments, allowing customers to orbit around sites, select homes, and explore at street level and inside.

  • Designed the template for reuse, increasing efficiency for 3D artists and outputting data for the front-end website.

  •    

Impact and Value: My initiatives and projects have led to substantial cost savings, enhanced customer engagement, and improved internal efficiencies, solidifying Strata Homes' position as an innovative leader in the customer experiance industry.

About.

My journey into the world of 3D modelling began over two decades ago. I taught myself the basics and quickly discovered my passion for creating in a digital space when I started modelling a classic Fiat 500. From there, my enthusiasm only grew. During my college degree in product design, I took every opportunity to model whenever possible. It was then that I crossed paths with an architectural student in need of visualisations for his designs. This serendipitous meeting led me to build a portfolio of architectural visuals and eventually landed me my first job in architecture.

In this role, I was immersed in the diverse world of architectural visualisation, working across various sectors including master planning, residential, retail, and leisure. Over the years, I have developed a wide range of skills, from building and managing teams to mastering cutting-edge tools like Unreal Engine to create immersive, interactive experiences that truly bring ideas to life. Each challenge I've faced along the way has deepened my love for problem-solving and innovation.

3Ds Max

Expert 3D modeler in one of the industry standards 3DS Max (18+ years). From baths, to cars, from homes to Islands there isn't much I can't build!

Unreal Engine

(7+ Years) Knowledgeable in all things rendering within Unreal, pathtracer & Lumen stills, animations or interactive applications! I also dabble in blueprints and scripting!

Vray

I used Vray for over ten years with 3DSMax before migrating across fully into Unreal. I have produced countless visual styles from conceptual to photorealistic static and animated visuals. 

Adobe Photoshop

I've used PS for as long as I can remember, Shortcuts are burned into my memory and I can't think of a week I don't pick up and use it - Such a crucial application for any creative.

Rhino3D NURBS

Experienced in NURBs modelling techniques (10+ years) to create accurate organic to rigid forms, mainly for product design and 3d printing purposes. Also dabbled in Grasshopper! 

Autodesk CAD

I've used CAD for most of my ArchViz career - from simply viewing drawings, to fully editing or create new sheets entirely. I even use to build in 3D using the architectrual version!

iToo RailClone

I've used Railclone for over six years, editing or generating my own procedural formulas to aid repetitive tasks in 3d modelling or for rapid prototyping. Also great for fences...

Adobe Substance 

I have only recently started to use substance but I have already propelled my material creations into new dizzy heights of quality - I can't wait to see how far I can take this workflow into content creation.

Midjourney & AI

Like any software it's what you make of it and I like to think Midjourney helps aid in quick mock-ups, even if only to disprove the idea it helps me fail fast in the early stages with clients.

Drone pilot

A2CofC and GVC certified to fly a number of drones up to 25kg. From recording video, photography or scanning for a 3d model to generate later, flying drones is not only fun but also aids in content creation.

Reality Capture

This software is brilliant for bringing in drone video & photography and turning it in to detailed 3d models perfect for context in architectrual visuals.

Photography

You can't visualise if you don't at least appreciate the real world, and what better way than to capture that with photography - this is where any of my work starts with real life reference material.
